The planetary boundary layer, capped by an inversion: extension to baroclinic and stable conditions

چکیده
The behaviour of the steady, horizontally homogeneous, neutral, barotropic planetary boundary layer (PBL) has recently been examined by Garratt and Hess. In Garratt and Hess (2002) modelled profiles of the mean wind, the geostrophic departure and turbulent stress components were compared with observations; in Hess and Garratt (2002 a,b) predicted integral measures, such as the geostrophic drag coefficient Cg, the cross-isobaric angle α0, the parameters A and B of Rossby-number similarity theory, and the rate of dissipation of turbulent kinetic energy integrated over the entire boundary layer, were compared with observations. The parameters A and B are defined as:

In issues related to air pollution, the thickness of the boundary layer is known as the depth of the mixed layer because the pollution on the ground surface is mixed in this entire layer through turbulence processes. In most cases, the boundary of the area is clearly visible on big industrial cities. The depth of the mixed layer has an important effect in the concentration of air pollution whic...

The Ekman-Taylor problem for the planetary boundary layer is solved in the case of a thermal wind which varies linearly with height. The upper boundary condition is a vanishing ageostrophic wind, while the lower boundary condition is continuity of the stress vector across the interface between the planetary boundary layer and the surface layer. The latter condition is used to determine the magn...

One of the most important components of the extent of pollutants mixing and air quality at near the Earth's surface is the height of boundary layer. Many variables involved in determining the height of the boundary layer of atmosphere. Although all of the troposphere (the lower ~10km of the atmosphere) is affected by surface conditions, most of it has a relatively slow response time. The lower ...

Many large-scale weather forecast models prescribes too much turbulent mixing stably stratified conditions, which causes problems with the depth of nocturnal or high-latitude winter boundary layers, lack of inertially driven low-level wind maxima and inversion-capped low clouds. The link between the turbulent momentum flux and the associated Ekman pumping and therefore the lifetime of synoptics...

Investigation of stratification in marine environments is always considered by researchers. In this study double-diffusive convection and stratification in the Bab el Mandeb strait is investigated by analyzing of field data. Measurement of seawater temperature and salinity from ARGO project (2009 to2014) and also R-V Knorr (2001) cruise with the daily average of seawater temperature and salinit...
